WAIT… STOP THE TRAINS!

WE ARE IN

Backstory

In 2019, a group was on a Mediterranean Wine Cruise in Europe, sponsored by Honig Vineyard and Winery, a Napa winery. Four couples from different parts of the country met and became good friends, subsequently sharing wine experiences through the years. Fast- forward to August 2025. Here the eight of us are in Napa Valley, CA for four days of wine experiences.

This is Day One…

(Editor’s Tip: for more information about the wineries and their wines, click the blue text introducing them. You can also click/ press here to see all my Napa posts going back to 2008.)

James Cole Winery

One of my favorites in Napa. Exceptional wines in a small, friendly setting.

Trivia: James Cole is not a person’s name. It is the first names of the couple that own the winery, James & Colleen Harder.

Our Traveling Wine Gnomes basking in the glory of great wines.

Some of you may recognize the Lord Emperor Wilson, leader of the Gnome Empire on the Planet Florida, on the far right. Click/ press here for his story.

Pretty flowers abound in Napa

The Prisoner Wine Company

One of the Valley’s larger wine companies, The Prisoner wine actually dates back several decades. Their tasting room is rated “A Winery Experience of the Year Finalist by Wine Enthusiast.”

Napa trivia: the tasting room is on the site of the old Franciscan tasting room. Franciscan is one of the wineries that was absorbed in the process of The Prisoner’s growth.

Phone Break and a slow crossing.

The sign to the far right says “Slow Pedestrian Crossing.”

Of course he’s going to be slow crossing, he’s leaning on a flower arrangement and talking on the phone.

The value of comma’s!

Peju Family Estate Wines

Gorgeous winery… excellent wines! Herta Peju and her two daughters, Lisa and Adriana, own and operate Peju.

The better halves of our group!
Explanation of the door.
The label says this is a “reminder to face life’s obstacles with poise and determination.”

Homage

This final image is from the evening before Day 1. We were on our way to dinner in downtown Napa.

I had to include it because “back in the day,” I shot a lot of black and white using Iford film. This is a wall surrounding a building under renovation.
