Neighbors in the rain…

A typical August day in central Florida: hot and humid, with thunderstorms rolling in periodically.

While we enjoyed the cool air indoors, listening to the thunder and watching the rain, our neighbors embraced the weather in their own way.

A sepia-toned image of a tree beside a body of water, with two ducks walking in the foreground.

We call them the Quackery of Swamp Ducks. They live in the neighboring swamp but spend their days with us—paddling around the pond, sunbathing, and hanging out under the trees when the sun gets too hot.

Today they ignored the old adage, “When thunder roars, go indoors!”

A rainy scene with ducks and a white bird near a pond, surrounded by lush greenery and trees.
About a dozen members of The Quackery attended in the rain. The count reaches the mid-thirties on some days.
Two ducks foraging in a green, grassy area with some puddles of water.
A white ibis wading through shallow water in a grassy area, with raindrops falling and colorful autumn leaves in the background.
In the midst of the heaviest downpour and lightning, this not-a-duck guy was unperturbed in his snack hunt.
(This image is actually focused… the heavy rain distorted the image!)
Two ducks walking on wet grass, foraging near a small puddle.
Two ducks standing in a grassy, muddy area.
A group of ducks foraging in a grassy, wet area with standing water.

BONUS Duck Joke…

A duck walks into a pharmacy and says, “Give me some ChapStick.”

The pharmacist asks, “Will that be cash or charge?”

The duck says, “Just put it on my bill.”
