For those who have never been…
Ocracoke Island, a remote 16-mile stretch in the south of North Carolina’s Outer Banks, is accessible only by boat, private plane, or vehicle ferry—the latter taking about 2.5 hours from the mainland. Renowned for its pristine beaches, wild ponies, and the historic 1823 Ocracoke Lighthouse, the island offers a laid-back, pedestrian-friendly escape where rental golf carts often outnumber cars on the village roads.

The house, once home to the lightkeeper, is currently being renovated after sustaining storm damage. To safeguard it from future floods, the structure is being elevated above ground level.
