This post is part of an ongoing project: scanning my old slides, prints, and negatives (late 1970’s to 2004) to digital.

Brookgreen Gardens is just south of Myrtle Beach in South Carolina. While named Botanical Gardens, it is home to the largest collection of American figurative sculpture in the country. Amongst the lush greenery of coastal South Carolina are over 1,400 works.

Our Photography Guild trip there in August, 1983 caught the beauty and tranquility of the Gardens.

One response to “Discovering Brookgreen Gardens: Art, Nature, and Memories of 1983”

  1. […] In 1960, 2,500 acres of the former estate were leased to the state of South Carolina at no cost, leading to the creation of Huntington State Park. Adjacent to the house is Brookgreen Gardens, which initially served as a showcase for Anna’s sculptures. Today, it is a premier sculpture garden featuring over 1,445 works by various artists.
