We recently spent about three weeks on a coast-to-coast road trip, driving a lot of the time on our Interstate highway system. We primarily traveled on I-10, I-20, and I-40. We have also traveled on I-95, I-75, and I-5.
For the most part, drivers obey the law. They are courteous to one another and drive safely. They understand the “rules of the road.” Unfortunately, some individuals feel that these guidelines do not apply to them.

Lefters
Ignoring “Keep Right Except To Pass;” living in the left lane.
The left lane is intended for passing to maintain traffic flow and enhance safety by keeping slower drivers in the right lanes. This allows faster vehicles to overtake and helps reduce congestion. Currently, thirteen states have implemented this practice to prevent unnecessary road rage, decrease the risk of accidents, and ensure that the left lane remains clear for emergency vehicles and drivers who need to pass.
Every state should adopt laws that require the left lane to be used for passing only and enforce the regulations.

Butt Kissers
No, not the folks trying to flatter you.
It’s those who want to see how close they can get to your vehicle without actually touching it. Seriously, when I’m going the speed limit or slightly over, why would you feel the need to get within inches of my bumper while I’m passing someone? Or when I’m stuck in a line of vehicles with nowhere to go? And then there are those rare idiots who think it’s acceptable to flash their headlights from behind.
Do you really believe that someone will speed up if you ride their bumper?

This one is in Texas.
Rocket Ships
Plus 10 mph over the speed limit, keeping with the traffic flow: OK. Plus 30-40 mph or more where you pass other vehicles like they are standing still: NOT OK.
You are a hazard and a death threat.
Is it a juvenile need for speed, is it stroking your ego, or is it the belief you’ll arrive at your destination faster that makes you want to risk everyone around you? Recently, Florida enacted a Super Speeder law. Drivers are classified as Super Speeders if they are caught driving 50 mph or more over the posted speed limit or exceeding 100 mph. Violations can lead to criminal prosecution.
My vote is to enact the law in every state.

Karens (and Chads/ Brads/ Kens)
“Unfairly” stereotyping: Young to middle-aged drivers who talk while looking at their passengers or their cell phones, frequently changing speeds or staying in the left lane, causing traffic congestion. Generally not paying attention to driving.
Please take your self-entitled behavior off the road so that you can not pay attention elsewhere.

Line Cutters
Imagine this scenario: a line of slow-moving trucks in the right lane and a long line of cars in the left lane overtaking them. There’s always that group of drivers who pass a truck, switch into the right lane, and then speed ahead to the next truck, trying to cut in line by overtaking as many vehicles as possible.
Patience is a virtue.

POS’s
The reference is not to Point Of Sale.
If it is a road hazard, why are you on the Interstate, often driving erratically and dangerously below the posted speed? The Clampett’s truck was a TV prop, not real life.

Weavers
Worst of the worst.
When someone weaves around other vehicles at high speeds, shifting rapidly between lanes without regard for the safety of those around them, it poses an extreme danger.
“Unfairly” stereotyping again: young person with a small car that seems barely street legal, OR small expensive high-powered vehicles (obviously compensating for something).
These dangerous drivers are a significant hazard to themselves and everyone else on the road. They should have their cars and licenses taken away.

Bill’s PSA: We must all remember that safety and respect are essential for a smooth journey together on our highways.
