Backstory
In late 2017, we embarked on a cross-country train trip from Florida to California. The journey took five days and was followed by a visit to one of my favorite cities—San Francisco.
I created 13 related posts about the trip. Recently, while updating the website, I realized I had never linked them together into a journey story. That oversight has now been corrected, and here is the account of our great journey across the country. The Page is now a permanent part of the website, and below its link, you can follow our Journey.
(Thanks to Mr. Peabody and Sherman for the use, again, of the WABAC Machine!)
Enjoy.

The Journey
On December 4, 2017, we embarked on a five-day cross-country adventure, traveling the old-fashioned way—by train, across three different routes.
- Orlando, FL
- to Washington, DC
- to Chicago, IL
- to Emeryville, CA, just outside of San Francisco
- followed by a San Francisco walkabout
Our journey began at the Orlando, FL train station. To be precise, it actually started with a bus ride from Tampa to Orlando, where we caught our first train.
Posting during the train rides proved challenging, so the 13 posts I wrote were published afterward, between December 2017 and March 2018.
I recently updated each post and added a link at the bottom to the next entry, allowing you to follow the journey seamlessly. Start with #1 below, click to open it, and follow along.
Enjoy the journey…
