On a road trip, we are in LA.

Los Angeles, you say?

NO, we say, we are in

After an… unusual… night at a hotel just across the border from Florida in Alabama, its off to A Breakfast Of Champions

Oh,yeah!

I believe it is a rule that you cannot leave Buc-ee’s without stuff….

The breakfast sandwiches were really good, too.

Never been to Buc-ee’s? Plan a stop. It is rapidly becoming an American icon.

Travel Tip: if you decide to overnight in Loxley, Alabama, there is only one hotel off I-10. KEEP DRIVING. There are nice hotels on down a few exits. Lets just leave it that the only good thing about the Loxley hotel off I-10 is it is nine minutes away from Buc-ee’s.

Now its off to Mobile, then on through Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana to our 2nd overnight just inside Texas.

Outside of Mobile, is the USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park. It is, says Mr. Obvious, the home of the retired WWII namesake battleship. There is also a multitude of aircraft, tanks and other vehicles, memorials, and remembrances. It really is a beautiful place to visit. Well worth the time spent there.

A quick trip through the Memorial Park

This was far from our first visit. We had driven through Mobile over the years. I also had work assignments there. So no tour of the battleship or the museum this trip.

Rather,

a visit to the Vietnam memorial and time to think about friends & acquaintances who didn’t come home, and…

a picture for a friend of a boat that should be under the water’s surface, not on dry land stands, and…

some unusual angles to satisfy the aeroplane geek in me.

No wings!
Someone has to keep things in order
I’m a sucker for the markings on aircraft
Those who know me well, will know why I couldn’t just walk by.
Oldest (C-47), Newer (carrier jet), Newest (Ruth waiting patiently in the car for me to get it out of my system).
The geek in me couldn’t help but notice the engine cowlings had been removed.
Helicopter markings.

Done. Time to get on the road.

‘s for stopping by!
