The double-whammy of Hurricanes Helene and Milton, only a few weeks apart, was not kind to our fair Tampa. We were exceedingly fortunate to suffer only minor damage (the common theme in our community was, “We dodged the big one”). Our neighbors did not fare as well.

A morning walk through the neighborhood.

Subtitle: Things I would like never to see again.

Milton took all the leaves from this tree.
Indications of the time: Hurricane sandbags and Fall pumpkins.
A pattern left when a power failure at a lift station backed up all the sewers—things you never think about. The power stayed on in the neighborhood except for the Lift Station.
Trash left from Helene is yet to be picked up due to the massive destruction throughout Tampa and surrounding areas.
More Helene refuse.
A resident observing the damage… and me.

Remnants of a free library put up by a neighbor
Tree and moon.

The park has been closed since Helene blew by. No projected opening date.
Park road

A wall of yard waste
The siding now lying on the roof and the side of the road

Half the gate was unscathed; the other half had to be forced open.
They used to stand straight and proud.
Indication of Milton’s wind direction. The good news is that the wind came from the northeast, avoiding Helene’s ruinous storm surge.
The bench was undamaged!
This tree got a haircut. It was much taller before H. Milton came to town.
