This post is part of an ongoing project: scanning my old slides and negatives (late 1970’s to 2004) to digital.

In July 1983, the Photography Guild we were members of visited Pipestem State Park in West Virginia. It is a 4,050-acre park, the largest in the state, in southern West Virginia. It opened in 1970. We were told the location was picked to improve the economy. The land was rich in beauty but lacking in jobs. It has grown to a family-friendly outdoors destination with lots of activities. In 1983, it was a rugged, rural area just starting to develop.

Unfortunately, many of the slides from the trip did not survive the travel through time. Here are some that did.

Look very carefully: the lodge is left of center in the top left quadrant
Another view of the lodge. What you can’t see is that there are well-appointed lodge cabins at the bottom of the gorge. Back then, the cabins were only accessible by gondola. That’s where we stayed.
Since we were a Photography Guild, we took our own models for portrait work.
This was 1983…. those of you who know me will recognize the gorgeous model.
Riding to the sunset.
