Ponta Delgada, on São Miguel Island, is the capital of Portugal’s Azores archipelago. The trip was a three-day cruise from Southampton and, after leaving, a five-day trip to disembark in New York.

Our day in Ponta Delgada was built around a spur-of-the-moment Whale/ Dolphin Watch Mini- Cruise. A beautiful, sunny, breezy day, unfortunately the attendance memo to the dolphins and whales was not adhered to. A very nice boat ride to the best viewing areas with 50+ of our new friends yielded distance views only. The return ride to the harbor provided a final far-away look.
