If you are ever in

You really need to go to

Backstory

2024

In November-December 2024, we did a cross-country road trip. Florida to California and back, with stops in Phoenix and Las Vegas.

On our way to the West Coast, we overnighted in the small town of Junction, Texas. On a recommendation from the hotel front desk clerk, we ate at Lum’s BBQ. It was sooooooooooooo good that I mentioned it in one of my trip posts:

Another cross-country road trip in August- September this year. Florida to California (Napa!), with an extended stop in Phoenix.

On the way back East, a last minute routing change (hooray for road construction) put us just outside a small town in Texas.

It would make a great story to write we deliberately stopped because our dinner in Junction last year was sooooooooooooo good. The truth is, it was a long day. It was also a new motel for us. So it didn’t click where we were until we were checked in, slightly rested, and ready for dinner.

“Oh wait,” said I brilliantly, as we drove up the road towards town, “This looks very familiar.”

We’re back!!! In Junction, Texas, that is. And there is Lum’s…

A large mural featuring a longhorn steer with the name 'Lum's BBQ' displayed prominently against a colorful background, with an American flag flying beside it.
Interior view of Lum's BBQ in Junction, Texas, featuring a decorative neon sign and rustic stone wall.
Neon sign featuring an eagle and the name 'Lum's', set against a stone wall backdrop with tropical plants.
Signage for Lum's Barbecue with a wooden background, featuring a blue and white design.
A decorative sign displaying a quote by Anthony Bourdain about the significance of food in relation to personal history and cultural identity.
A metal menu board displaying various meats and sides offered at a BBQ restaurant, including brisket, ribs, turkey, and various salads and sides.
A busy BBQ restaurant counter with a menu displayed overhead, featuring staff serving customers in a casual setting. Snack options like chips are displayed in front.

Super casual. The food (the Texas BBQ) is incredibly good. The beer is cold (you pull it out of the cooler). The staff is friendly. The ribs were some of the best I have ever had. Well worth the stop!

The exit door of a rustic building, featuring a red 'EXIT' sign with an arrow pointing right, mounted next to a stone wall.
It even has a Way Out Exit!
