This post is part of an ongoing project: scanning my old slides, prints, and negatives (late 1970’s to 2004) to digital.
Ocracoke Village is a small unincorporated town located at the southern end of Ocracoke Island on North Carolina’s Outer Banks. There are no bridges to the island. It is only accessible via ferry boat, private boat or private plane. Almost the entire rest of the island belongs to the Cape Hatteras National Seashore, managed by the National Park Service. Other than the village, a northern ferry terminal, a pony pen, and a small runway, the island is undeveloped.
At the end of this post are links to a 2022 trip to the island, the village and the Outer Banks. There is also a post of images from 1983 that were scanned from slides.
Ocracoke was one of our favorite places when we lived in North Carolina. Our visits were before taking up digital. I hope my ongoing scanning project will uncover more old images of this beautiful part of the country.
Notes record these slides were taken in 1986. They were scanned to digital on 02/24/25.
